On September 15, 2024, the Arts Team from Universitas Sumatera Utara presented a captivating dance and music performance at the Indonesian Cultural Night held at Theater Ganesha Siam Square One, Bangkok. This event also welcomed participation from other Indonesian universities, including Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Bali, and Universitas Padjajaran.
The evening commenced with a warm welcome from the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Rachmat Budiman. The event featured a delightful dance performance by Indonesian children studying at SIB (Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok) and showcased traditional dances from various regions of Indonesia.
The Universitas Sumatera Utara Arts Team, consisting of dancers, a vocal group, and musicians from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, performed the Tortor Saoan Pangurason, accompanied by the traditional songs "Saoan Pangurason" and "Tortor Tandok." The performance not only highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Batak people but also engaged the audience in a shared celebration of Indonesian culture.
A special highlight of the evening was the opportunity for the Arts Team to sing alongside Ambassador H.E. Rachmat Budiman. Together, they performed the beloved songs "O Tano Batak" and "Anak Medan," creating a heartwarming finale to the Indonesian Cultural Night.
This event was not just an artistic showcase, but also a platform for personal growth and profound cultural exchange. The team's mission to share and spread knowledge about Indonesian culture among the audience, including Indonesians residing in Thailand and Thai nationals, was a testament to the power of cultural understanding. For the students, this experience was not just valuable, but also inspiring, offering insights into the significance of their cultural heritage and fostering a sense of connection.
Additionally, this occasion marked a significant step in strengthening the collaboration between Universitas Sumatera Utara and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok. It is not just a milestone but also a promising beginning. The potential for future partnerships in education, research, and cultural exchange is vast, and it is hoped that such opportunities will serve as a foundation for exciting and fruitful collaborations.
