Prof. Dr. Rudy Sofyan, Head of the International Affairs Office (IAO) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), took part in the Nationwide University Network in Indonesia (NUNI) Staff Exchange Program held at Universitas Udayana, Bali, from October 20 to 25, 2025.
The program began with participants' arrival in Bali, followed by a welcoming lunch with the IAO team at Universitas Udayana and hotel check-in in the afternoon. On the following day, participants attended an introductory session on Universitas Udayana’s International Affairs Office, which operates at two campuses-Bukit Jimbaran and Sudirman Denpasar-followed by discussions on inbound and outbound mobility programs and visits to several international program units such as GoBali, BIPAS (Bali International Program on Asian Studies), and IBSN (International Business Study Network).
The third day was a rich cultural experience, dedicated to learning about the management of the BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing) program under the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, led by Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Suparwa, M.Hum. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with international students involved in Balinese cultural activities such as dance and music, enriching their understanding of the local culture.
On the fourth day, Prof. Rudy Sofyan joined a meeting with the Academic Team and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ir. I Nengah Sujaya, M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., to discuss the admission process for international students and potential collaborations. These discussions included the possibility of receiving KNB (Kemitraan Negara Berkembang) awardees, opening up exciting future opportunities for Universitas Sumatera Utara. The agenda continued with visits to Universitas Udayana’s library and the Australian Corner.
The fifth day focused on discussions regarding visa and stay permit management for international students. Due to the high number of international students, Universitas Udayana collaborates with an external agency to facilitate visa processing while maintaining supervision through the IAO.
The program concluded on a high note with a City Tour of Denpasar and a heartfelt farewell lunch. Prof. Rudy Sofyan departed Bali for Medan via Jakarta, carrying with him the enriching experiences and fruitful collaborations of the NUNI Staff Exchange Program.
Through this staff exchange, Prof. Rudy Sofyan and Universitas Sumatera Utara strengthened their collaboration and shared best practices in internationalization, academic mobility, and intercultural engagement within the NUNI network.
