Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the Orientation Program for New Students of the Developing Countries Partnership (KNB) Scholarship 2025 on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. The event aimed to introduce international students to the academic environment, learning system, and various university facilities, including student dormitories, sports facilities, a health center, and other educational facilities.

This year, USU welcomed six (6) international students who are recipients of the KNB Scholarship 2025. The students come from Tanzania, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Pakistan, and will pursue their studies in several programs at Universitas Sumatera Utara, including pharmacy, computer science, agriculture, and others.

The event began at 09.00 AM with participant registration, followed by an opening session by a representative from the International Affairs Office (KUI) of USU. In her remarks, the Vice Rector III Universitas Sumatera Utara, who also serves as the Person in Charge of the KNB Program, warmly welcomed the new students and encouraged them to adapt well and make meaningful contributions during their studies at USU. During the orientation, each student had the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their country of origin with representatives of Universitas Sumatera Utara, fostering a warm and interactive atmosphere that encouraged open communication and mutual understanding.

The orientation was comprehensive, covering a series of sessions that included Introduction to the Campus Environment and Academic System, Introduction to Campus Facilities and Student Activities, information about bureaucratic procedures, and student services for international students. This ensured that the students were well-prepared and informed about their new academic environment. In addition, participants were briefed about student dormitories and campus facilities by the Head of the Bureau of Equipment and Assets. They were introduced to the Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) by the BIPA Team from the Faculty of Cultural Science. After lunch and prayer breaks, the event continued with a Campus Tour and Department Introduction, guided by teams from each study program and accompanied by staff from the International Affairs Office.

Through this orientation, it is expected that the new KNB Scholarship awardees will gain a better understanding of the academic culture, learning system, and campus facilities at Universitas Sumatera Utara, enabling them to begin their educational journey with enthusiasm and readiness.
