UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA VISITS ICCBS (INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES) IN KARACHI PAKISTAN

After successfully sending 10 students (1 from Pharmacy Department, 8 from Biology, and 1 from Chemistry) and 3 lecturers for a research internship at ICCBS in 2022, the USU delegate accompanied by the Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat, paid a visit to ICCBS to monitor the progress of internship program on 26 May 2023. The collaborative works have allowed USU students and academicians to conduct their research at ICCBS research facilities under the supervision of ICCBS expert staff and professors.
The delegate, led by Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt (Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation), consists of Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A (Vice-Rector for Academics, Student, and Alumni Affairs), Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si (Vice Dean for Academics, Students and Alumni Affairs of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), and Dr. Rudy Sofyan, S.S., M.Hum (Head of International Affairs Office). The director of ICCBS, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, H.I., S.I., T.I., welcomed the delegate at the Foreign Scholar Lodge Building, ICCBS Complex, Karachi. In his speech, Prof. Iqbal welcomes other students, Ph.D. scholars, and academicians from USU to conduct such internships in the future. This program offers a 6-12 months internship in the ICCBS lab facilities.

Prof. Poppy Anjelisa thanked ICCBS for such cooperation as the implementation of the MoU signed on 10 November 2021 between USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si and Director of ICCBS Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, H.I., S.I., T.I which was facilitated by Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi. Under this agreement, the USU students can conduct their final research projects at the ICCBS Lab facilities with joint supervision between USU lecturers and ICCBS researchers/professors. The supervisors of USU students at ICCBS appreciate the hard work and dedication the students put in during their internships. The students worked hard for approximately seven months to finish their project analyzing data and samples at ICCBS lab facilities. "We hope to send more students in 2023 for a similar internship program", added Prof. Poppy. "Research facilities at ICCBS are available for USU students and academicians. They can come and use the facilities in their research projects", said Prof Iqbal. He hopes the cooperation between USU and ICCBS can be strengthened and nurtured to harvest the best result for each institution.
